At Turning Point Leeds (TPL), we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued, respected, and protected from bullying in all its forms. This Anti-Bullying Policy outlines our approach to preventing and responding to bullying incidents, ensuring the well-being and safety of all members of our community.

2. Aims

To create a positive culture that promotes kindness, empathy, and respect for diversity.

To prevent and effectively address all forms of bullying, including verbal, physical, relational, and cyberbullying.

To empower pupils, staff, and parents/carers with the knowledge and skills to recognise, report, and address bullying behaviour.

To support victims of bullying and provide appropriate interventions to promote their well-being and resilience.

To foster a collaborative approach involving pupils, staff, parents/carers, and external stakeholders in addressing bullying incidents.

3. Definition of Bullying
​
Bullying is defined as the repetitive, intentional mistreatment of one person or group by another, where a power imbalance exists. Bullying may include, but is not limited to:

Verbal bullying (name-calling, teasing, threats)

Physical bullying (hitting, kicking, pushing)

Relational bullying (exclusion, spreading rumours, social manipulation)

Cyberbullying (harassment, intimidation, or humiliation via digital platforms)

4. Responsibilities
4.1 Leadership
TPL leadership is responsible for creating and implementing policies and procedures to prevent and address bullying effectively. They will ensure staff receive appropriate training and support in recognising and responding to bullying.

4.2 Staff
All staff members have a duty to intervene promptly whenever bullying is observed or reported. Staff will support victims and take appropriate action in line with policy.

4.3 Pupils
Pupils are expected to treat others with kindness and respect, to report bullying to a trusted adult, and to contribute positively to a culture of inclusion and empathy.

4.4 Parents/Carers
Parents and carers play a vital role by reinforcing positive behaviour and communicating openly with TPL. Concerns should be reported promptly to staff, and parents are encouraged to work in partnership with us to resolve issues.

5. Prevention Strategies

Delivering sessions that teaches pupils about different forms of bullying, its impact, and prevention strategies.

Promoting inclusivity and respect through discussions and activities that celebrate diversity and build empathy.

Establishing clear expectations through TPL’s behaviour policy and code of conduct.

Providing staff training and resources to recognise and respond to bullying.

Regular check-ins with pupils to build trust, positive relationships, and early identification of concerns.

Encouraging pupil voice in shaping a safe and supportive environment.

6. Reporting and Response Procedures

Pupils, staff, and parents/carers are encouraged to report concerns promptly to a member of staff, the TPL Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), or through established reporting channels.

All reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly and fairly by staff

Victims will be supported through individual plans, pastoral support, and involvement of the host school where appropriate.

Perpetrators will face consequences in line with the host school’s behaviour policy, which may include the termination of a TPL placement.

All safeguarding concerns linked to bullying will be escalated to the DSL at TPL and the host school’s DSL.

7. Review and Monitoring
This policy will be reviewed annually. TPL will monitor incidents and share relevant information with host schools to improve prevention strategies and ensure transparency.
