SCHOOLS

Welcome to Turning Point Leeds (TPL)

Situated in the heart of LS14 at Kentmere Community Centre, Seacroft, TPL is a non-school Alternative Provision (AP) that provides a safe, supportive, and aspirational environment for young people.

Our facilities include a dedicated classroom for academic learning, breakout rooms for personalised mentoring, a fully equipped kitchen to develop practical life skills, excellent sporting spaces, and a large outdoor area for outdoor education.

We exist to serve schools across Leeds, offering a stepping stone for young people to realise their potential and succeed when they return to mainstream education.

Who We Support

TPL is designed for young people who are:

  • At risk of suspension or permanent exclusion

  • Permanently excluded and in need of 6 days of interim provision

  • Not attending or engaging with mainstream education

  • Struggling with the transition from primary to secondary school

Reintegration Back to School

Reintegration is central to what we do. Our staff stay connected with both the young person and the host school after return, offering phone calls, video check-ins, or agreed school visits. This ongoing support makes reintegration bespoke and flexible, phased or full, depending on what each young person needs to succeed.

High Standards and Consistency

We prepare young people for the rigours of mainstream school by mirroring the expectations of their host schools:

  • Pupils wear their assigned school uniform.

  • Host schools share behaviour policies with us so we can reinforce consistency.

  • Mobile phones are handed in each morning and stored securely to keep the focus on learning.

Our high standards ensure that transition back to school is smooth, familiar, and successful.

Daily Structure

Breakfast Catch-Up: Building Relationships

Each day begins with a community breakfast. More than just a meal, this time helps pupils and staff connect, share thoughts, and reflect. It builds trust, belonging, and sets a positive tone for the day.

Morning Focus: Academic Development

Mornings are dedicated to core learning in English, Maths, and PSHCE, supported by experienced teachers. Every pupil also has a Century Learning online profile to track progress, build confidence, and support personalised learning.

Afternoon Focus: Skills and Interests

Afternoons are designed to support holistic development. Pupils access our sports facilities, kitchen, and outdoor areas for a wide variety of projects, including:

  • Sport and fitness

  • Cooking and nutrition

  • Gardening and outdoor learning

  • Creative arts

  • Community engagement

These projects build life skills, confidence, and independence, while giving pupils the chance to discover passions and strengths. Some activities also take place off-site, enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

1-1 Mentoring: Personalised Growth

Every young person receives dedicated mentoring to:

  • Navigate school life – overcoming academic hurdles and building strong relationships.

  • Explore their potential – discovering personal interests, talents, and ambitions.

  • Develop life skills – managing emotions, resolving conflicts, and making positive choices.
