Fitness & Community Engagement at the Denis Healy Centre
At TPL, we are committed to providing pupils with high-quality opportunities that go beyond the classroom. As part of our enrichment programme, we use the Denis Healy Centre, a well-established community hub in the heart of Seacroft.
Fitness Training in a Professional Gym
Pupils have access to a fully operational fitness suite, where they are guided through structured training sessions. These sessions develop:
-
Physical fitness and health
-
Knowledge of safe and effective training methods
-
Confidence in using gym equipment
-
Self-discipline and resilience

Sport in the Sports Hall
After fitness, pupils take part in a variety of team games and sports in the Centre’s sports hall. These sessions build:
-
Teamwork and communication
-
Tactical awareness and skill development
-
A positive approach to competition and fair play

Community Engagement
The Denis Healy Centre is more than just a venue for sport, it is a community hub. By accessing this space, pupils see firsthand the importance of community involvement, shared spaces, and positive role models. They learn about:
-
Respect for community facilities
-
Building positive relationships beyond school
-
The role of sport and fitness in local life

Our Approach
This partnership reflects our restorative ethos at TPL: we value connection, respect, and growth. Pupils benefit not only from improved health and wellbeing but also from experiences that strengthen their ties to the local community.
