Intent of Our Offer - Turning Point Leeds

At Turning Point Leeds, our Horticulture curriculum is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in gardening and plant science, fostering a deep appreciation for nature and sustainable practices. We aim to inspire students to explore the diverse world of horticulture, encouraging creativity, environmental stewardship, and a strong understanding of plant biology and ecology.

Our extensive outdoor space offers an ideal learning environment, featuring various garden plots and project areas. This setup ensures that students gain practical experience, allowing them to develop their gardening skills and knowledge in a real-world setting. We believe that by mastering these skills, students will gain confidence, a sense of achievement, and a deeper connection to the environment.

Implementation

KS3

In Key Stage 3, all students follow a curriculum that meets the national standards for Horticulture. They engage in a variety of practical and theoretical lessons designed to build their knowledge and skills in gardening and plant care. Each student has access to our large outdoor space, enabling them to participate in project work and practice their techniques in a supportive and well-equipped environment.

Our curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including plant biology, soil science, sustainable gardening practices, and landscape design. Students are assessed through both formative and summative assessments, ensuring they achieve the necessary competencies to progress.

Impact

Through our comprehensive Horticulture curriculum, we aim to enhance students' practical skills and academic achievement. By the time they leave Turning Point Leeds, students will have gained valuable horticultural expertise, an understanding of sustainable practices, and the confidence to pursue further education or careers in this dynamic and vital field.
