1. Introduction
Turning Point Leeds (TPL) values parents and carers as vital partners in supporting the education, well-being, and personal development of our pupils. We recognise that effective parental engagement leads to improved outcomes for pupils and helps create a strong, supportive learning community.
This policy sets out our commitment to building positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with parents/carers to ensure the best possible outcomes for every pupil.

2. Objectives
-
Communication: Maintain clear, consistent, and timely communication between TPL, parents/carers, and host schools.
-
Partnership: Promote active involvement of parents/carers in their child’s educational journey, behaviour support, and well-being.
-
Support: Provide guidance, resources, and opportunities to help parents/carers support their child both at home and at TPL.
-
Collaboration: Work in partnership with host schools to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach to pupil development and support.

3. Strategies for Parental Engagement
3.1 Welcoming environment
-
Open-door approach (by arrangement): Parents/carers are welcome to visit or meet with staff, by pre-arranging with the Headteacher, to ensure discussions are meaningful and purposeful.
-
Inclusive ethos: Parents/carers are invited to contribute to school events, review meetings, and feedback opportunities to foster a sense of shared community.
3.2 Communication
-
Regular updates: Parents/carers will receive timely updates on pupil attendance, progress, and behaviour via phone calls, emails, and formal reports.
-
Review meetings: Scheduled review meetings will take place each term with parents/carers, TPL staff, and host school representatives to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps.
-
Accessibility: Communication will be adapted, where possible, to meet language or accessibility needs of parents/carers.
3.3 Consultation and feedback
-
Feedback mechanisms: Parents/carers will be encouraged to share their views via surveys, informal discussions, or structured feedback sessions.
-
Policy input: Feedback from parents/carers will be considered in the review of policies and practices to ensure TPL continues to meet the needs of pupils and families.

4. Supporting Parents and Carers
-
Resources: Provide information about local services, support groups, and online resources to help parents/carers support their child’s education and well-being.
-
Guidance: Offer advice on managing routines, behaviour, and attendance to promote consistency between home and school.
-
Sensitivity: Recognise and respect cultural, religious, and family diversity in all communications and engagements.

5. Partnership in Behaviour and Discipline
-
Consistency: TPL will work closely with parents/carers and host schools to ensure a consistent approach to managing behaviour and promoting positive choices.
-
Restorative approach: Where behaviour incidents occur, parents/carers will be involved in restorative conversations to help pupils reflect, repair, and improve.
-
Problem-solving: Any disagreements or concerns will be addressed promptly through open dialogue, mediation, and collaboration.

6. Safeguarding and Attendance
-
Safeguarding: Any concerns regarding a pupil’s welfare will be shared immediately with the host school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in line with safeguarding procedures.
-
Attendance: Parents/carers are expected to notify TPL of absences promptly. TPL will work with families and host schools to address barriers to attendance.

7. Evaluation and Review
-
Monitoring: The effectiveness of this policy will be monitored through parental feedback, attendance at meetings, and engagement with reviews.
-
Review cycle: The policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by legislation, guidance, or stakeholder feedback.

8. Policy Dissemination
-
The Parental Engagement Policy will be made available on the TPL website and shared during parent/carer induction.
-
Reminders and updates will be communicated through newsletters, emails, and meetings.

9. Conclusion
TPL is committed to developing strong partnerships with parents and carers, recognising that collaboration is key to the success of every pupil.
