Intent of Our Offer – Physical Education at Turning Point Leeds

At Turning Point Leeds, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to promote fitness, teamwork, resilience, and lifelong wellbeing. We want every pupil to find enjoyment and success in physical activity, to feel confident in their abilities, and to discover ways of being active that they can carry into adult life.

Our intent is to:

  • Inspire pupils to take part in a broad range of physical activities that suit different interests and abilities.

  • Use sport and physical activity to build confidence, resilience, and self-discipline.

  • Promote positive relationships and restorative practice, encouraging teamwork, respect, and inclusion.

  • Support pupils to understand and value the role of health and physical activity in everyday life.

We are fortunate to have access to a fully equipped sports hall, outdoor spaces, and strong community links that enrich our PE offer. Sessions are led by qualified and experienced staff who create a safe, supportive environment where every pupil can achieve.

Implementation

Pupils engage in a curriculum that blends skill development, tactical understanding, and fitness training. Lessons are practical, engaging, and adapted to the needs of individual pupils.

The programme includes:

  • Team sports such as football, basketball, and netball, building cooperation, communication, and shared responsibility.

  • Individual activities such as athletics, fitness training, and personal challenges, encouraging independence and resilience.

  • Community partnerships with local sports centres and coaches, providing pupils with opportunities to take part in activities beyond our setting.

Assessment focuses on progress, effort, and personal achievement, recognising that success looks different for every pupil.

Impact

Through PE at Turning Point Leeds, pupils will:

  • Gain practical skills in a wide range of physical activities.

  • Build confidence, resilience, and self-belief.

  • Understand the link between physical activity, health, and wellbeing.

  • Experience sport as a tool for connection, inclusion, and community engagement.

  • Develop a positive attitude towards physical activity that supports a healthy, active lifestyle beyond their time with us.

At Turning Point Leeds, PE is not only about sport—it is about restoring confidence, building relationships, and creating positive futures through physical activity.
