This policy sets out the procedures for effectively managing and responding to medical emergencies, ensuring prompt and appropriate care in the event of a medical crisis either on TPL premises or during school-related activities.

3. Responsibilities

Designated First Aiders: Provide immediate first aid within the scope of their training; record incidents accurately; liaise with emergency services.

All Staff: Report medical emergencies immediately, provide reassurance, and follow procedures calmly.

Directors: Oversee implementation of this policy, ensure adequate training and resources, and review all incidents.

Parents/Carers: Share up-to-date medical information (e.g., asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, allergies) and provide consent for emergency treatment.

4. Procedures for Dealing with Medical Emergencies

Ensure the scene is safe.

Provide first aid if trained and appropriate.

Call 999 immediately if life-threatening.

Summon the Designated First Aider and inform the Headteacher.

Host School: Notified without delay of any significant medical incident.

Documentation: Record incident details (nature, response, outcome) in the medical logbook, stored securely in line with GDPR.

RIDDOR: Where applicable, report incidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

6. Review and Evaluation

Post-incident review: Conduct a debrief with staff to reflect on what went well and identify improvements.

Restorative re-engagement: Offer the pupil a supportive conversation to reduce anxiety and enable smooth return to learning.

7. Training and Preparedness​

At least one trained first aider is on site at all times.
